Celebrities and Hybrid Electric Cars
Many people seem to be obsessed with celebrities and want to have the lifestyle of the rich and famous. While the multi-million
dollar mansion and the spouse to die for may not be available to all of us, there is one increasingly affordable area where we can live just
like our favorite stars: You can now afford to drive the cars that they drive! In years past, Hollywood
celebrities would never be seen riding in anything less than a chauffer driven limousine.
However, they are showing up at more and more places and events behind the wheel of their own hybrid cars!
Probably the first star to publicly endorse hybrid cars was Cameron Diaz. Cameron
has been the proud owner of a Toyota Prius for years now. She has been very good for the entire hybrid cars industry despite her
original faux pas in comparing it (with the assistance of a chat show host) to a golf cart. Despite this little jab at hybrids, she has been
a vocal and eloquent proponent of hybrid cars. And with her celebrity “green credentials,” she has
helped popularize and "make cool" the ownership of hybrid cars.
Leonardo Di Caprio is another long time enthusiast of hybrid cars.
In 2002 when many Americans were still unfamiliar with hybrid cars, Di Caprio stated that his Prius way just like any other car
but that he only fills it up once every three weeks. Little seemingly insignificant statements like this are picked up by the general
public and taken to mean that it's cool to own hybrid cars--while dispelling rumors about them at the same time.
Alec Baldwin likes his hybrid car for rather the opposite reason. While he appreciates its positive
environmental impact, he says he likes the anonymity that driving a small car can give.

After all, even though more and more celebrities are driving hybrids, no one expects to see anyone drive up in one.
Larry David, the writer of the old hit TV comedy "Seinfeld" and the star of "Curb
Your Enthusuasm," is also an enthusiastic owner of a hybrid car. (Or at least he was until his wife gave away his car as a prize in a
sweepstake to promote the campaign, “Stop Global Warming," but didn’t mention it to him.)
Tom Hanks is also a firm believer in hybrid cars. Hanks is also noted for his environmental work and his concern for the environment and
is an active participate in the group "Nature Conservancy."
